The timber hitch is another simple but important hitch which can be used to drag heavy objects such as a log. It holds firm as long as it is given a steady pull. A simple hitch can be added near the front end of the object to guide it.
The timber hitch is an anchor knot which means that it beds down and is fully secure on a point and this is created by the twisting action which creates a firm fixed point. It can be used with different lashings to create tarps/dens and rope bridges.
A lovely activity teaching the Timber Hitch at Forever Green Forest School.
