My Reflective Journal - October

Updated: Nov 2, 2020

2nd -7th Oct 2020

It has been interesting to delve into a wide variety of assessments that have been based on the hazards and risks for the site and the people who will use it. I feel that I have learnt more about the importance of relationships in Forest School learning. This applies to our relationship to nature and each other because trust and respect will be important aspects of so much of the teaching and learning.

The next section of the course that I shall be moving onto will be based upon learning practical Forest School skills and so all that I have learnt and written about will be put into practice. It will be exciting to learn with my hands again and as I go through this process I will be recording and noting hazards/risks and learning developments as all of this can be applied in my Forest School teaching.

I really appreciate the journey that I have gone on so far and can really see and understand how each task has been linked and connected. Each task has been a steppingstone that has helped me to build and develop my understanding. I am continually referring to previous work and research I have done and producing these risk assessments for this assignment as brought it all together.

31st October 2020

October has been a funny month and I don’t really feel I have been that productive. However, I have started Unit 2 and have thought carefully about the PPE needed in a range of situations. I have also purchased some PPE equipment for myself and filmed myself using this at the Forest Site. During October, as well as finding out about PPE I have had the opportunity to clear and start developing the Forest School site. I had an operation in the middle of the month, and this has held me back as it has taken a couple of weeks to recover. Anyway, I am now in a good place to move onto the next assignment.
