Reflective Journal-December 21

29th-5th Dec

Second essay is ongoing and am trying to fit it in between teaching and parenting. The session last week was a great success, and the children loved the treasure hunt and worked really well as a team sharing out the clues and running from one end of the grounds to the other which was lovely. They enjoyed the nocturnal animal masks that were the prize at the end of the trail and played imaginative role play games with them. This week they have asked to continue with nocturnal animals, and we are going to put up some Dormouse boxes in the grounds and plant some trees as it is national tree planting week. We have a lovely story about a dormouse to share and we will also be putting up the night camera to see what we can capture on our site.

6th-12th Dec

Second essay still ongoing and picking up and doing bits whenever I get a chance. The activities last week worked well, and the children were enthusiastic about planting trees and putting up dormouse boxes. We put up the camera but only caught the leaves blowing in the dark so will replace and put somewhere else this week. The children would like to make some Christmas decorations this week, so we are going to use some wooden rounds and make some tree hangings. We are also going to find out about the 21st of December and celebrations about the shortest day of the year.

13th-19th Dec

My second Behaviour essay is done just the references to do now. I worked this weekend and was very thankful that my family did not moan and understood that it was something I needed to get done. Last week was great the children were all excited about Christmas and making decorations we had Christmas dinner being made in the mud kitchen and we saw the most amazing moon. We all stopped and laid down and looked at the stars which was magical. The group have really bonded and feel like a unit which support and encourage each other. We made more decorations this week and then had a mini-Christmas celebration where we talked about each of our strengths and what we take away from coming to Forest School each week. The children were in such good spirits, and they all were very pleased with their Canopy Forest School bag that I had bought each of them. A lovely way to end the term and I am proud of the journey that we have all been on together. Next half term they would like to do some orienteering and learn to use a compass which sounds cool, they also want to learn some knots and I suggested animal prints and tracking which they were keen and excited about.
